Accessibility to fishing spots
Inventory of the accessibility to fishing places
Considering the response to the generalisation of the accessibility problems to our watercourses for fishing, a meeting was organised January 13th 2005 in Minister DAERDEN’s office. This meeting had as main theme the accessibility problems anglers encounter while practising fishing and the drawing of proposals for solutions.
To meet the request of the Fédérations de Pêcheurs of ameliorating the present situation, the following proposals were advanced:
- Creating a permanent nucleus of harmonisation between the different actors: the anglers’ federations, the Ministry of Equipment and Transports (M.E.T.) as well as the public powers (the office of the Minister DAERDEN).
- Definition of accessibility and security norms for practising fishing.
- Actualisation of the inventory of the Ministry of Equipment and Transports according to these norms, in collaboration with the M.E.T. and the fishermen federations.
- Elaboration, in harmony with the M.E.T., of a management programme for fishing spots.
In a first approach, the accessibility and security criteria were set by the Maison wallonne de la Pêche concerted with the local halieutic federations of the two pilot areas: "Basse-Meuse Liégeoise" and "Charleroi-Thuin" marked on the chart below. Based on these, an accessibility and feasibility inventory was made. The management proposals were elaborated in harmony with the local federations and the local officer of the Ministry of Equipment and Transports. These management actions were planned and prioritised.
You can consult the reports of the charted inventories carried on two pilot areas. The first part of these dossiers reports the current situation. The accessibility criteria used to make the inventory are exposed, as well as the results of the of the accessibility inventory to watercourses. In the second part, we suggest management actions that will allow improving the present situation and we evaluate the impact of these actions in the future.
